"Identitarian Movement" | Right-wing extremist disruption of ARD summer interview with Markus Söder
Berlin. Supporters of the "Identitarian Movement" disrupted the ARD summer interview with CSU leader Markus Söder on Sunday. According to a report by the German Textservice news agency, approximately one to two dozen right-wing extremists gathered in front of the Reichstag building at noon, wearing black T-shirts and waving flags. They held a banner reading "The strongest force in the country – you won't drown us out" and repeatedly chanted the term "remigration."
The protest took place on the stairs, which are usually seen in the background during the ARD capital studio's summer interviews. The unregistered rally was broken up by police after a few minutes, with videos on social media showing police pinning several people to the ground.
This is the second major disruption to ARD's summer interviews this year. The previous interview with AfD leader Alice Weidel at the end of July was disrupted by the "Center for Political Beauty" using a loudspeaker bus, making it impossible for the interviewees to understand each other for a time. Apparently, the "Identitarians" wanted to replicate this incident.
The "Identitarian Movement" later acknowledged its action on Platform X, writing: "We loudly attended the summer interview with Söder." However, it was practically unsuccessful: "We recorded a trouble-free broadcast," a spokeswoman for the ARD capital studio was quoted as saying. The ARD summer interview with Söder was scheduled to air at 6 p.m. on Das Erste. nd
